Local Innovation Awards Scheme

The shortlist for the second stage has now been announced - view the shortlisted applications

After 10 years of celebrating and sharing, the Beacon Scheme is ending. It is being replaced by the new and exciting Local Innovation Awards Scheme. This new scheme closed for entries on 27 October 2009.

The platinum level Local Innovation Awards Scheme has been jointly established by Communities and Local Government (CLG), and the Local Government Association (LGA). With a streamlined process, it will be 'easy to enter, a challenge to win’. Find out more about why central and local government both sponsor this exciting scheme.

The scheme recognises, celebrates and awards partnerships who can demonstrate that they have innovative services, ideas and ways of working that bring real benefits to citizens. Award holders will receive a financial incentive to enhance improvement on behalf of the sector.

The aims of the scheme are to:

  • identify, acknowledge and spread innovation and excellence
  • raise standards by promoting best practice through peer learning and knowledge transfer
  • improve services to make a real difference to quality of life and life chances for individuals and communities
  • give national recognition to local, frontline services and partnerships
